Hi-Flame, through its technical department, is currently the only stove maker with a significant presence in the Irish market represented on the important Stove Industry Alliance (SIA), Hetas and BSI technical committees which are at the forefront of the development of appliance and installation standards and regulations. As a consequence at Hi-Flame we are rigorous in our approach to meeting and exceeding all relevant EU and Irish standards to ensure our customers' safety and care of the environment.
The SIA (Stove Industry Alliance) which represents the leading UK and Irish stove manufacturers and distributors provides the only industry scheme that ensures that the claimed emissions credentials of a stove will meet the forthcoming stringent EU Ecodesign limits which come into force in Ireland on the 1 January 2022. All test data is independently verified by Hetas who administer the scheme for the SIA.

Hetas is the independent body which works for the safe, efficient and environmentally responsible use of stoves and their safe installation. Its Approved Product scheme comprises verification of CE test results, including the suitability of the instructions, appliance inspection visits and checking that the manufacturer operates a Certified Quality Management System complying with the requirements specified in the EN13240 and EN13229 standard.

The Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) operate the Home Heating Appliance Register of Performance (HARP) which is a product efficiency database for home heating appliances available in Ireland that includes wood burning and multi fuel stoves. The product efficiencies shown are derived from verified CE type tests which allows homeowners to make direct product comparisons and also provides reliable data for calculating BER assessments.

Defra (the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs) is responsible for, among other things, environmental protection including air quality, in the UK and Northern Ireland. Stoves that are Defra Exempted have usually been modified to pass a series of tough emissions tests over and above the CE and Ecodesign requirements to ensure that when burning seasoned logs they are exceptionally clean burning in all states of the burn cycle, thus minimising smoke.

CE marking on stoves indicates that each model type has been independently and rigorously tested for each declared fuel in an EU Notified Laboratory to ensure that it conforms to health, safety, efficiency and environmental protection standards when sold anywhere within the EU. When installing a stove the ROI's Construction Products Regulation (CPR) also makes it mandatory for the stove to conform to CE EN13240 (freestanding) or CE EN13229 (inset) standards.

Kesa Aladin is the industry standard software for the calculation of chimneys in accordance with EN13384-2:2015 'Chimneys: Calculation methods'. When installing a stove within an existing chimney or designing a new chimney (eg a twin wall system) it is important for installers and developers to access the correct information to ensure the maximum performance and safety from the chimney and stove. Hi-Flame stoves' data is already uploaded to the Kesa software.
